What is insomnia?

Insomnia is a type of sleep disorder that makes it difficult to fall asleep, stay asleep, or both, and wake up from numerous hours of sleep not feeling rested, thereby experiencing fatigue and difficulty functioning throughout the day.

Waking too early and having difficulty falling back to sleep. Staying awake at night and worried you will not fall back asleep.
A consistent pattern of interrupted sleep that leaves you not rested.
Difficulty falling asleep. 

Lack of sleep changes activity in some parts of the brain. If you have insomnia, you may have trouble making decisions, solving problems, controlling your emotions and behavior, and coping with change. Poor sleep is also linked to depression, suicide, health challenges, and risk-taking behavior.
